The D.A.R.E. program was started by a group of Los Angeles police officers and
schoolteachers that were concerned because kids were taking drugs. These drugs were
destroying kids' lives. The police officers and schoolteachers joined forces and launched
D.A.R.E. to teach kids about the dangers of drugs and violence, and how to protect
themselves from it.
The Beaver County Sheriff's Office has been actively involved in D.A.R.E. and Crime Prevention since 1991. Since its conception, many programs have been developed by the Sheriff's Office. The D.A.R.E. Program was the first of these many crime prevention programs. Currently the Sheriff's office has two (2) crime prevention officers, Deputy Kevin P. Lupo and Deputy George Palombo, who instruct the D.A.R.E. Program in five (5) school districts in Beaver County. These include:
- Big Beaver Falls School District
- Midland School District
- Riverside School District
- South Side Beaver School District
- Western Beaver School District
